The Gray House is an astounding tale of how what others understand as liabilities can be leveraged into strengths.

Bound to wheelchairs and dependent on prosthetic limbs, the physically disabled students living in the House are overlooked by the Outsides. Not that it matters to anyone living in the House, a hulking old structure that its residents know is alive. From the corridors and crawl spaces to the classrooms and dorms, the House is full of tribes, tinctures, scared teachers, and laws – all seen and understood through a prismatic array of teenagers’ eyes.

But student deaths and mounting pressure from the Outsides put the time-defying order of the House in danger. As the tribe leaders struggle to maintain power, they defer to the awesome power of the House, attempting to make it through days and nights that pass in ways that clocks and watches cannot record.

  1. I have never read anything more powerful and beautiful in my entire life As a parent, I have never read anything more powerful and beautiful in my entire life. This book is pure magic, every single page of it. I can’t thank Mariam Petrosyan enough for it.

  2. Amazing, frustrating, convoluted and a peek into another space Characters or real people? Fact or fiction? The lines and spaces this author draws can leave you gasping for reality. Not a catogorizable book. Highly recommended.

  3. and pretty soon I GOT IT I started reading this book and got to a place quite early on where I just gave up. I picked it up a couple of weeks later, and pretty soon I GOT IT. And once I got it, I couldn’t put it down again. I hated being taken away from it, it enthralled me. I will read this book again, and will get more from it, and again and get even more. It is complex, strange and totally unique and one of the best reading experiences I have ever had. Thank you, Mariam.
