When a bunch of neo-fascist thugs named The Bulldogs attack a Gay pride march in the sleepy country town of Lafferton, detective Simon Serrailler moves quickly to find the assailants. Susan Hill has won the Whitbread, Somerset Maugham, and John Llewelyn Rhys prizes, as well as being shortlisted for the Booker Prize. She has written 55 books in several genres, including the ghost story The Woman in Black, the play adapted from which is still running in London’s West End after 25 years. Not a disappointment I am a big fan of Susan Hill’s work and when I saw this Kindle Single available, I could not resist. As always, the writing is deft. She manages to draw you into her story and before you know it, you are done. I don’t want to spoil the plot, but there is a breach of security around a visit by a royal family member in Serrailler’s territory. Who is it? How do they know so much? Is there a leak in the department? You will have to download and find out for yourself but you will not be…
Worth it! Great little novella to tide you over until a full book is published.
A good Kindle Single read! I love the Simon Serrailler mystery series, and this is a good little addition to it, while we wait for the next full-length book.
