This book is a Western romance that has a bit of everything: love, mystery, lies, action and humor. It’s a must read for all those who love Westerns.
“When men do not care how luck runs it never fails to favor them… …The devotees of fortune are the ones she punishes.” A tall tale with complex characters, a polished plot and more of a mystery than your ordinary western. Was a cut above the rest and am now wanting to read more Max Brand stories as a result. To get even more ‘bang’ for your buck consider grabbing this as part of a collection like The Max Brand Collection ASIN: B016X8AQRE, or THE MAX BRAND BOOK ASIN: B01F5WZPU2. Bottom line – a very good book!
More of the same, but done so very well! Max Brand was, without doubt, a formula writer but, as with the formula for Coke or Pepsi, that’s a good thing. If you are looking for a comfortable Western read this, and all Max Brand books, is as comfortable as an old boot. With spurs of course.
A boom town, controlled by thugs who risk everything for gold and power, meets its match.. Great characters, page turning action, surprises in theory chapter as a down-at-the-heel wanderer finds himself thrust onto center stage to survive by his wits and demeanor. A magnificent surprise ending — Max Brand at his best well worth the time.
