A Book to Capture your Heart Kirkus reviewed this book, giving it a “starred” (exceptional book) review. But I didn’t need Kirkus to convince me to read Intrusion. I have followed Mary McCluskey’s short stories in magazines like Salon, the Atlantic, and other literary journals on the internet, so I was familiar with the very distinct quality of McCluskey’s prose, (smooth as butter!) and pre-ordered immediately. I wasn’t sorry and I won’t spoil it for you with too much…
At times emotional, but the build-up doesn’t quite hold up at the end. 3.5 Stars
A mediocre read… Devastated after the loss of her only teenage son, Kat is struggling to put her life back together. Married for many years, she seems to have put her past behind her. However, one day an old friend suddenly reenters her life, precipitating unanticipated consequences for Kat and her husband. Building up slowly, Kat’s story comes to a very unexpected ending in the closing chapters of the novel.
