San Francisco crime reporter Tom Reed is burned out. On the day he decides to finally quit the news business, a sensational story breaks. A heart-stopping robbery-homicide at a jewelry store. The suspects have shot and killed a police officer before fleeing with a female hostage.

Good suspense but claustrophobics beware Having been a reader of crime fiction (i.e. Michael Connelly, John Lutz) as well as non-fiction (Anne Rule) for many years, I am always on the lookout for a suspense author who is new to me. I have recently begun Rick Mofina’s books, starting with Full Tilt and now this one No Way Back. While this story is gripping and revolves around the tense kidnapping of a reporter’s wife, and it moves as a good fast pace, I am not wild about Mr. Mofina’s choices as regards victim abuse.
