Risteard Roald is the powerful and deadly ruler of Elpidios, a planet that is slowly dying without the Blood Stones needed to absorb the radiation gradually destroying its stratosphere. Their alien rivals, the Kassis have found a way to replicate the Blood Stones needed to save his world, but his first dealings with a traitorous Kassisan has left a deep distrust for the species.
So very good!!! A must have in SE Smith’s Universe! Susan Smith is a freaking genius! Her books are filed with interesting characters. Twisty plots, sharp, fresh dialogue, and sarcastic humor, that in some instances, is elevated to the level of smartass! Just Brilliant! In lords of Kassis #4, Ristéard’s Unwilling Empress, you will be unable to put it down until you are finished, and all that you can do is want, MORE! Ristéard is an ass. He is dominant, bossy, arrogant, sexy, lonely, and desperately searching for a way to save…
Darn… Grow a .. grow a something. Sorry, I couldn’t even read the entire thing. Slow, no real character development, they stayed both static and boring. It was slow to start, it felt like a good 40% or more was just explaining how they got there (Back Story as one said), and the conversations were stilted and forced. The character interactions seemed to be taken from a bad regency novel, Even the parents interactions were stilted.Â
Not really up to S.E. Smith’s regular standards . . . I was excited when I saw that S.E. Smith had released a new Kassis book. But for the first time in . . . well, ever . . . I was bored reading one of her books. It pains me to say that because she is my favorite author, but reviews are meant to be fair and objective so I have to stick with the two-star rating. (It took me two days to read it, because I kept putting my Kindle down and wondering off because it didn’t hold my interest).Â
