From #1 New York Times bestselling author Nora Roberts comes Shelter in Place – a powerful tale of heart, heroism . . . and propulsive suspense.
It was a typical evening at a mall outside Portland, Maine. Three teenage friends waited for the movie to start. A boy flirted with the girl selling sunglasses. Mothers and children shopped together, and the manager at the video-game store tending to customers. Then the shooters arrived.
The chaos and carnage lasted only eight minutes before the killers were taken down. But for those who lived through it, the effects would last forever. In the years that followed, one would dedicate himself to a law enforcement career. Another would close herself off, trying to bury the memory of huddling in a ladies’ room, hopelessly clutching her cell phone – until she finally found a way to pour her emotions into her art.
But one person wasn’t satisfied with the shockingly high death toll at the DownEast Mall. And as the survivors slowly heal, find shelter, and rebuild, they will discover that another conspirator is lying in wait – and this time, there might be nowhere safe to hide.

Sorry, Roberts fans… I have never not wanted to finish a Nora Roberts book before beginning âShelter in Place.â The entirety of the book was heavily politicized, emotionally skewed, and preachy, with romantic threads that felt forced until the very end. What happened to writing for the sake of the story, and not making sure to hit the notes that would garner the most publicity? So, for the first time, I find myself disappointed by a new release from what has been one of my favorite authors. Is this the end of the…
Don’t waste your money or time on this one. I have enjoyed her books for years. The last few though have been disappointing. I had to force myself to finish this one. The topic is quite timely. The character development seemed lackluster and not up to Nora standards. There were some small missing details and inaccuracies that were nevertheless key to moving the story along. The ending seemed rushed and anticlimatic given the events in the story. It was almost like a rushed ending to meet a deadline or cashing in on tie ins with current…
