The Black Elfstone: The Fall of Shannara, Book 1

The first book of the triumphant and epic four-part conclusion to the Shannara series, from one of the all-time masters of fantasy.

Through 40 years of New York Times best-selling Shannara novels, Terry Brooks always had an ending in mind: a series that would bring it all to a grand conclusion. Now that time is here.

The Four Lands have been at peace for generations, but now a mysterious army of invaders is cutting a bloody swath across a remote region of the land. No one knows who they are, where they come from, or what they are after – and most seem content to ignore these disturbing events. The only people who sense a greater, growing threat and wish to uncover the truth are society’s outcasts: an exiled High Druid, a conflicted warrior, a teenage girl struggling to master a prodigious magic…and a scrappy young orphan, improbably named Shea Ohmsford.

It was the early 1980’s when I was living in Holland and found a book store that had one or two books in English. The Elfstones of Shannara was the book and this was my first or second book into experiencing fantasy. I’ve since consumed many, many books, many of which are epic fantasy (high magic or low magic stories). When I saw this advance reader copy (ARC) available for me to pickup for review, I was looking forward to it.

  3. Great for a Fan; Not as a Stand Alone My son, husband, and I are huge Shannara fans. Although we loved this book because its part of the series, it fell short compared to the other books. If you are a fan, it is a must have and it has been long anticipated… After a fluid intro, the book drags with too much character description… If you are new to the series, DO NOT start with this book please- you will be epicly disappointed- it does not compare to the other books. This is the first book of a four-part conclusion to the…
