Soon to be a major motion picture starring Matthew McConaughey and Idris Elba!
In the first book of this brilliant series, Stephen King introduces listeners to one of his most powerful creations: Roland of Gilead, The Last Gunslinger. He is a haunting figure, a loner on a spellbinding journey into good and evil. In his desolate world, which frighteningly mirrors our own, Roland tracks The Man in Black, encounters an enticing woman named Alice, and begins a friendship with the boy from New York named Jake.
Both grippingly realistic and eerily dreamlike, The Gunslinger leaves listeners eagerly awaiting the next chapter.
The best of the four books This story is rich in characters, scenery, and events. Putting the Dark Tower parts aside, the story of Roland’s youth is especially entertaining and shows how King can use his remarkable storytelling abilities without the hokey weirdness he usually injects.
The great tragic romance Wizard and Glass is an excellent book. I was enthralled the whole way through. The characterization and motivation were believable and engaging. The story of Will and Susan is a tragic love story that helps explain who the Gunslinger is and how his world works, but also the importance of the Dark Tower. The descriptions were revealing.
Out with a whimper First off, I was disappointed that this last volume of the series is not a hardcover just a soft cover collection.Â
