Wyoming game warden Joe Pickett has two cases to contend with, both of them lethal, in the electrifying new novel from the number-one New York Times best-selling author.

Wyoming’s new governor isn’t sure what to make of Joe Pickett, but he has a job for him that is extremely delicate. A prominent female British executive never came home from the high-end guest ranch she was visiting, and the British Embassy is pressing hard. Pickett knows that happens sometimes – these ranches are stocked with handsome young cowboys, and “ranch romances” aren’t uncommon. But no sign of her months after she vanished? That suggests something else.

At the same time, his friend Nate Romanowski has asked Joe to intervene with the feds on behalf of falconers who can no longer hunt with eagles even though their permits are in order. Who is blocking the falconers and why?

The more he investigates both cases, the more someone wants him to go away. Is it because of the missing woman or because he’s become Nate’s advocate? Or are they somehow connected? The answers, when they come, will be even worse than he’d imagined.

  1. I feel like Mr. Box is losing touch with the old Joe and Nate. I love the Joe Pickett and Nate series. I have them all on audible and I got this one the day it was released. Now that I listened to it, I wonder why I was in such a hurry. The story line of Joe being abused by the gov’t, ( verbally at least) is getting old for me. I liked the earlier books, more action and not two plots in one book. I will buy the next one if it is a finishing sequel, because Missy needs to be gone permanently and the ending to this one left me wondering what the…

  2. C.J. Box delivers an entertaining story again It was so fun to drop back into Joe Pickett’s world in THE DISAPPEARED. As usual trouble always seems to find Joe Pickett, or should I say follows him. C.J Box once again places Joe in a situation in which it is more than it seems. There was a lot happening in this story: finding a missing well known British executive, dealing with a new governor and his right hand side who dislikes Joe, and Nate Romanowski asking Joe for help with a conspiracy theory. As much as I was entertained by…

  3. There’s something hinky about this case from the start… Joe Picket, though he’s just a game warden, is sent off by the new governor to find a British woman executive who’s disappeared, after spending a week at a luxury dude ranch. Joe’s had some success in the past with touchy investigations, but he still considers himself an odd choice for this assignment. Particularly since this governor dislikes him so much. All will be made clear eventually…Joe gets help from his family and friend Nate in the search for Kate Shelford-Longden. His…
