The instant New York Times best seller and most anticipated book of the summer
Soon to be a major motion picture starring Scandal’s Kerry Washington
An addictive psychological thriller about a group of women whose lives become unexpectedly connected when one of their newborns goes missing.
A night out. A few hours of fun. That’s all it was meant to be.
They call themselves the May Mothers – group of new moms whose babies were born in the same month. Twice a week, they get together in Brooklyn’s Prospect Park for some much-needed adult time.
When the women go out for drinks at the hip neighborhood bar, they are looking for a fun break from their daily routine. But on this hot Fourth of July night, something goes terrifyingly wrong: one of the babies is taken from his crib. Winnie, a single mom, was reluctant to leave six-week-old Midas with a babysitter, but her fellow May Mothers insisted everything would be fine. Now he is missing. What follows is a heart-pounding race to find Midas, during which secrets are exposed, marriages are tested, and friendships are destroyed.
Thirteen days. An unexpected twist. The Perfect Mother is a “true page turner.” (B.A. Paris, author of Behind Closed Doors)
An absolutely addictive read. THE PERFECT MOTHER is one of those books you sit down to read and don’t get back up until you are finished. At its core, it is a book about what happens when a terrible event takes place and how those related to the crime deal with it. There are juicy secrets, well crafted lies, and a whole lot of honesty about being a mother. Here is the thing about this book. It is not just about the kidnapping. In fact, I would dare to say that the abduction of Midas is secondary to the lives…
Not too Bad. 3.5 stars rounded up. The crime portion of the novel was somewhat predictable, but there were enough surprising turns, and red herrings, to satisfy me. I would estimate that close to 50% of the novel was contemporary fiction – showing the characters adjusting to new motherhood. This didn’t bother me as those parts were interesting enough, and gave the characters a real feel by showing them in everyday life situations. Also, even those parts did relate to the crime plot – as the mother’s dealt…
Perfect for Book Clubs I’ve read The Perfect Mother twice and my heart was still pounding during the final pages the second time around. This book is smart, funny, and brings up so many topical issues for discussion. I’ve read many mysteries and still couldn’t figure out this one until the end. The prose is fresh and easy to follow. A must read.
