A fun (inexpensive!) picture book for the un-fancy Nancy’s.

Shelby likes to play sports in her favorite red sneakers. She likes to dig for worms with her best friend, Nate. She does not want to have tea parties with her next door neighbor, Sophie. And when she is asked to be a flower girl in her aunt’s wedding, she knows one thing for sure: SHE IS SO NOT WEARING A DRESS!
A spunky heroine, adorable illos, and a totally charming story will appeal to the many, many girls who prefer baseball caps to tiaras.

It’s the anti Fancy Nancy… If you have an “unfancy” daughter, this book is for you…..fabulous illustrations, sweet story for girls that would rather play baseball than get manicures….loved it

A Terrific Tomboy Tale! A dress is so not what to wear while digging for worms. A really cute story of a girl who isn’t afraid to be herself — and isn’t that what we all want for our daughters?!

Causing Headaches This is a hard one to review for me. For parents that have girls at home just like Shelby this would be a fabulous book. There aren’t a lot of children’s picture books specifically *for* tom-girls and if your daughter/son has a lot in common with Shelby this is a fine addition to the shelf. The story is easy to read and the pictures are pretty charming. I also liked the way the conflict was resolved in the end.
