When a young, naive woman, Zoey Hubbard, fresh out of college with a degree in Journalism, lands her only job offer at a small newspaper in Hampshire County, she reluctantly takes it. The daughter of a famed journalist, she feels above reporting the obituaries and happenings of the small towns in the county, and dreams of moving on to a large, prestigious paper in a major city as soon as possible. But shortly after she is hired, a man comes into the newspaper office with a shocking story that would rattle the small burg of Chester to its core and immerse Zoey in the community in ways she could not have predicted. With the guidance of her wise boss, Bailey Bothwell, and the assorted characters she meets through the newspaper and the investigative team she helps create, Zoey grows in ways she never imagined, and begins to feel a sense of belonging that complicates her dream of big city reporting.
