Arthur’s Seat had never sought a galactic role. A relatively new colony world, a mere 300 years old, the planet was always isolated from the galactic mainstream. But with the Empire crumbling after the fall of Earth and other planets taking advantage of the chaos to make their own bids for power, Arthur’s Seat suddenly finds itself playing host to tens of thousands of unwanted immigrants, refugees who have been kicked off countless other worlds.
But as the planetary government struggles to integrate the newcomers, powerful factions plot to take advantage of the situation, and the refugees struggle to carve out a place for themselves, it becomes clear that the entire planet is on the verge of anarchy…and outright civil war may not be far away.
A very good book, but not the equal of his best work. The premise is REALLY interesting and like most of his work, it’s well written.Â
One for the record books Briefly I did not enjoy reading this book. As Mr Nuttall has often done , he cuts too close to reality. The story is Well written with believable characters and realistic storyline. Reading his essay at the end of the book , which I highly recommend to all his readers , I begin to understand why I’m so uncomfortable with the story. If you’re familiar with the series and have followed it’s twist through the end of the human Empire , I suspect you will make your way through this one. But be…
Not up to Nuttall standards Not as good as the prior Empire’s Corps books. In fact the Empire’s Corps is not involved with this intraplanetary conflict between unwanted refugees and planet inhabitants. Seems more like a back story for some future book in a different series. Very slow in parts unless you are into social science. Generally love the series, but this is a clinker.
