Stress Relief? This is a 2-disc cd with “sessions” that are aimed to help the listeners with reactions to stress in their lives. Although there are 2 cds, you will only want to listen to the first cd once. It is a bit long-winded but it is very thorough in its definition and description of stress. I was afraid I would miss an important session if I skipped any so I listened all the way through. If you are short on time, I think you can speed your way thru the first cd if you would like and get to the actual session which is on disc 2. Now this is where it gets tricky for me. I definitely relax while listening to the cd, and the doctor’s voice is very monotone. Consequently, all 5 times I have listened to this I fell asleep. Each time I tell myself I am going to stay awake. However, without fail, I always fall asleep. I want to continue listening, especially to cover everything I may have missed during times when I’ve been asleep. So, if relaxation is stress relief, I’ve gotten it even if…
Session 2, Track 3, “Mind-Body Scan” Melts Tension Away!! I’m taking off a star because, as the other reviewers note, parts of this—large parts of this—are really more like an unabridged audiobook, and I’m not sure that’s clear from the description. However, following the reviews, I started with Session 2, Track 3. This is really like guided meditation (mainly, deep breathing with a body scan), and my body responded very quickly and thoroughly. He advises that when you breathe in, you gather up any tightness; when you breathe out, you release it. When I sat down to begin (with some scepticism), I had a lot of lower back and abdominal pain from endometriosis, IBS, anxiety, etc. I’m not saying this is a cure-all, but for the time being, anyway, I definitely feel great relief. I feel like those tight places have been stretched out again, particularly my lower right side.I do believe in the power of positive suggestion, and he says some great things here, particularly for these troubled times. Like many, I have been very…
Very Relaxing! I don’t feel particularly stressed in my life right now, but I am interested in the possibilities of self-hypnosis, so I thought this product looked interesting.Disc one was basically one long review session for me. In it, Dr. Gurgevich explains the nature of stress, scientific studies regarding stress, ways to respond to stress, and how to reduce its effects in our lives. He also talks about the benefits of relaxation techniques and positive affirmations. These are good things that I already use in my life. However, as an avid reader of psychology (with a degree in the subject), most of it was review. Because of this, I could have easily skipped disc one and gone straight to disc two.Disc two is the meat of the program, the actual self-hypnosis process. The CD starts off with an introduction to hypnosis: what it is, and what it is not. Gurgevich describes all hypnosis as self-hypnosis, since only the individual can enter into a state of trance; nobody can make…
