A new novel in the #1 New York Times bestselling series: Lt. Eve Dallas must separate rumors from reality when a woman who traffics in other people’s secrets is silenced.
The chic Manhattan nightspot Du Vin is not the kind of place Eve Dallas would usually patronize, and it’s not the kind of bar where a lot of blood gets spilled. But that’s exactly what happens one cold February evening.
The mortally wounded woman is Larinda Mars, a self-described “social information reporter,” or as most people would call it, a professional gossip. As it turns out, she was keeping the most shocking stories quiet, for profitable use in her side business as a blackmailer. Setting her sights on rich, prominent marks, she’d find out what they most wanted to keep hidden and then bleed them dry. Now someone’s done the same to her, literally – with a knife to the brachial artery.
Eve didn’t like Larinda Mars. But she likes murder even less. To find justice for this victim, she’ll have to plunge into the dirty little secrets of all the people Larinda Mars victimized herself. But along the way, she may be exposed to some information she really didn’t want to know…
It’s good to find the characters are getting back to their … It’s good to find the characters are getting back to their normal, recognizable selves– they’ve been a bit off for the last 4 or 5 books… but the plot was thin and there was absolutely no connection indicating the killer until a very minor “aha” moment near the end… “Oh, that happened… then this person must be the killer”… kind of strange in that regard. But JD Robb is an excellent writer– easy to read and engaging. Still a favorite author, but kind of wondering this…
Another fantastic story in this wonderful series! As usual this was a fantastic series. Somerset on vacation and Eve is in heaven! Robb always finds ways to keep you guessing about who did the crime. I love this series and all of Nora’s books too. I am so glad I listened to my Mom and decided to read this series! Get it, read it and you will not be sorry!!
A softer Eve Dallas? This was an enjoyable read because of Eve and Roarke, and not because of the crime and the investigation. I found that part a bit boring. We also see, in my opinion a softer side of Eve. A more generous, kinder Eve who thinks about others first. It was nice to see that side, but I hope she does not lose her edgier, bitchier side!! It shows her character is growing and evolving which is nice. Now if Robb could do the same for poor Peabody and Mavis who had not grown an inch since the series…
