Includes The 5 Love Languages Personal Profile

Unhappiness in marriage often has a simple root cause: we speak different love languages, believes Dr. Gary Chapman. While working as a marriage counselor for more than 30 years, he identified five love languages: Words of Affirmation, Quality Time, Receiving Gifts, Acts of Service, and Physical Touch. In a friendly, often humorous style, he unpacks each one. Some husbands or wives may crave focused attention; another needs regular praise. Gifts are highly important to one spouse, while another sees fixing a leaky faucet, ironing a shirt, or cooking a meal as filling their “love tank.” Some partners might find physical touch makes them feel valued: holding hands, giving back rubs, and sexual contact. Chapman illustrates each love language with real-life examples from his counseling practice.

How do you discover your spouse’s – and your own – love language? Chapman’s short questionnaires are one of several ways to find out. Throughout the book, he also includes application questions that can be answered more extensively in the beautifully detailed companion leather journal (an exclusive Amazon.com set). Each section of the journal corresponds with a chapter from the book, offering opportunities for deeper reflection on your marriage.

Although some readers may find choosing to love a spouse that they no longer even like –hoping the feelings of affection will follow later– a difficult concept to swallow, Chapman promises that the results will be worth the effort. “Love is a choice,” says Chapman. “And either partner can start the process today.” –Cindy Crosby. 1. like i majored in literature and well got high standards … im the person that hates self help books, like i majored in literature and well got high standards but legit this book has helped me and my husband to get a better marriage, it was recommended to us by our counselor, it has even helped me understand the way my parents love each other and also how the love me as well

  2. Great read When I was in college, I took a class that touched on the subject of the 5 love languages, but I wanted to learn more. I bought this book and really enjoyed it. Gary Chapman is a brilliant writer who can relay so much knowledge in a clear and understandable form. I have encouraged my husband to read this book, and spoken about it to friends about it as well. Highly recommend this to anyone curious about a better understanding of their partner/significant other.

  3. Definitely worth reading to improve your relationship with your spouse. It is definitely a good book for couples and it has improved my relationship with my wife. If nothing else it shows you what things your partner is really looking for out of their spouse. I quickly found that my love language was “Acts of Service”. Though it might not be sexy or macho to say that, it means more to me to have the dishes and laundry done when I come home after work or have minor home improvements taken care of before I get home. My wife and I have 2 small children…
