For over 30 years London-based interior designer and Designers Guild founder Tricia Guild has looked to the world’s beauty for design ideas. Her book Inspiration is a captivating collection of her passions – art and music; architecture and design; theater and opera; novels and poetry; food; flowers and gardening; the broad sweep of landscape and the miraculous minutiae of nature; texture and form; light and shadow; and color.

“Wherever we go we are taking in glimpses, impressions, of the world around us, and I believe that these images go deep into our psyches, become part of our own energy and imagination,” she writes. Her passions range from the art of Frida Kahlo to the colors of India, from hydrangeas to butterfly wings. James Merrell’s photographs juxtapose raw muses with finished objects and the lovely presentation of these images encourages readers to reflect upon the beauty of this world.

Inspiration by Tricia Guild Tricia Guild’s colors carry a bright and bold color palette. This book is no exception, with images which spark the sense. There are bits of color swatches with pictures of fabric pattern, fruits, flowers and furniture. It is a brightly festive book filled with celebrations of beautiful things in life including parrakeets, lemons, herbs and verandas. I will look over this book over and over again for inspiration as I do her Country colors. two thumbs up!

Another fabulous book by the great Guild This is my latest purchase from Guild’s work and it’s quite extraordinary in every respect. Most obviously, there’s book design that perfectly juxtaposes images, topics and themes and provides just enough order so that the reader doesn’t get lost among Guild’s varied inspirations. The photography is stunning, and as always with Guild the colors are rich and vital. Best of all, for me at least, was the glimpse of Guild’s creative life, seen in sharp relief through the diverse things that inspire…
