A Cold Dark Place (Winner of the New England Readers’ Choice Award in Romantic Suspense and Aspen Gold)

FBI Agent Mallory Rooney is hunting the monster who abducted her twin sister and begins to suspect there’s a vigilante operating outside the law. Former CIA assassin Alex Parker works for a clandestine government organization hell-bent on taking out serial killers before they enter the justice system. Alex doesn’t enjoy killing, but he’s good at it. He’s good at dodging the law, too – until a beautiful rookie agent has him wondering what it might be like to get caught.

Cold Pursuit (Winner of the 2015 National Excellence in Romance Fiction Award for Romantic Suspense)

A single mom and her son escape with their lives after terrorists attack an American mall. When the boy is targeted for death, an FBI agent helps them disappear and ends up falling in love. But can he keep them safe when the players are more powerful than he ever have imagined and he doesn’t know who to trust?

Cold Light of Day (2015 Winner of the Heart of Excellence for Romantic Suspense, and Book Buyers Best Contest)

Physicist Scarlett Stone is the daughter of the most notorious Russian agent in FBI history. With her father dying in prison, she’s determined to prove he’s innocent, but time is running out. Using a false identity, she gains access to the Russian ambassador’s Christmas party, searching for evidence of a set-up. Former Navy SEAL, now FBI Special Agent, Matt Lazlo is attracted to Scarlett, but when he discovers she lied to him about her identity, he hunts her down with the ruthless efficiency he usually reserves for serial killers. Scarlett’s scheme fails, but as agents involved in her father’s investigation start dying, Matt and his colleagues begin to wonder. Could they have a traitor in their midst?

The X-Files: Cold Cases

The series that had a generation looking to the sky gets a breathtaking audio reprise in an original full-cast dramatization featuring actors David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson returning to voice FBI agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully.

Based upon the graphic novels by Joe Harris – with creative direction from series creator Chris Carter – and adapted specifically for the audio format by aural auteur Dirk Maggs (The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, Alien: Out of the Shadows), and directed by William Dufris of AudioComics, Cold Cases marks yet another thrilling addition to the pantheon of X-Files stories. Featuring a mind-blowing and otherworldly soundscape of liquefying aliens, hissing creatures, and humming spacecraft, listeners get to experience the duo’s investigations like never before.

Set after the events of The X-Files: I Want to Believe and providing additional backstory to the incidents that pulled Mulder and Scully out of reclusion prior to 2016’s miniseries revival, a database breach at FBI headquarters allows an unknown group to access and capitalize on those investigations left unsolved – dubbed cold cases – by the secret department once known as The X-Files. As friends and foes of the agency long thought gone begin to inexplicably reappear, former agents Mulder and Scully come out of anonymity to face a growing conspiracy that involves not only their former department but the US government and forces not of this world.

Here, fans are treated once again to Mulder and Scully’s irreplicable chemistry as only the series’ leads could deliver, Duchovny’s deadpan and cynical aloofness finding its natural counterpoint in Anderson’s unwavering intelligence and rigidity. Appearances from series regulars and the actors who made them fan favorites round out this must-listen arc: the gruff, no-BS righteousness of Walter Skinner (Mitch Pileggi); the distinctive click-puff of the Cigarette Smoking Man (William B. Davis); and the stooge-like hijinks of three beloved conspiracy theorists called the Lone Gunmen (Tom Braidwood, Dean Haglund, and Bruce Harwood).

Whether you’re a believer or a skeptic, find your “I Want to Believe” poster. Break out that makeshift alien stiletto. Grab a pack of Morley cigarettes.

The truth is out there. You just have to listen.

A Cold Day for Murder: A Kate Shugak Mystery

Eighteen months ago, Aleut Kate Shugak quit her job investigating sex crimes for the Anchorage DA’s office and retreated to her father’s homestead in a national park in the interior of Alaska. But the world has a way of beating a path to her door, however remote. In the middle of one of the bitterest Decembers in recent memory ex-boss – and ex-lover – Jack Morgan shows up with an FBI agent in tow. A Park ranger with powerful relatives is missing, and now the investigator Jack sent in to look for him is missing, too.

Reluctantly, Kate, along with Mutt, her half-wolf, half-husky sidekick, leaves her wilderness refuge to follow a frozen trail through the Park, twenty thousand square miles of mountain and tundra sparsely populated with hunters, fishermen, trappers, mushers, pilots and homesteaders. Her formidable grandmother and Native chief, Ekaterina Shugak, is – for reasons of her own – against Kate’s investigation; her cousin, Martin, may be Kate’s prime suspect; and the local trooper, Jim Chopin, is more interested in Kate than in her investigation. In the end, the sanctuary she sought after five and a half years in the urban jungles may prove more lethal than anything she left behind in the city streets of Anchorage.
