Firestorm (Walking in the Rain)

This is another book in the Walking in the Rain series, but from a different perspective.

David Metcalf is trying to survive after the lights went out and the aircraft circling the Dallas and Forth Worth metro area fell to earth. With nothing to stop the firestorm that ensues, the city and neighboring suburbs burn. The conflagration is only one part of the problem; people are running out of water and food and willing to kill their fellow man to get it. David needs to find someplace safe where he can protect his family, but he discovers that there are things at play behind the scenes to keep the misery going.

Follow David as he navigates the dangers in this new land where anyone could be a potential threat.

“Do you think it will rain today?”: Quotes from La Selva Biological Station, Costa Rica

There is a place in Costa Rica where people from all over the world work to advance our scientific knowledge. This place, the La Selva Biological Station, is known around the world for its scientific productivity and fantastic rainforest. However, this is also a place where occasionally you will hear things like… “What kind of soup is it?” – “Chlorophyll.” “I’m pregnant!…with a botfly.” “Something behind Casa 4 smelled like a dead animal.” – “Oh, that was probably our field clothes.” “…and this part of it is inedible.” – “Oh, I think I ate that already.” “Your project just ate my project!” Come in for a behind-the-scenes, always hilarious, sometimes gross, and occasionally even inspiring journey into the lives of field biologists in the tropical rainforest. Carissa Ganong’s collection of quotes (hundreds of them over the last few years) will give you an insight into the lives of thousands of students, researchers and visitors to this most wonderful place on Earth.

Come Rain or Come Shine (A Mitford Novel)

#1 New York Times–bestselling author Jan Karon returns—with the story readers have been waiting for.

Over the course of ten Mitford novels, fans have kept a special place in their hearts for Dooley Kavanagh, first seen in At Home in Mitford as a barefoot, freckle-faced boy in filthy overalls.

Now, Father Tim Kavanagh’s adopted son has graduated from vet school and opened his own animal clinic. Since money will be tight for a while, maybe he and Lace Harper, his once and future soul mate, should keep their wedding simple.

So the plan is to eliminate the cost of catering and do potluck. Ought to be fun.

An old friend offers to bring his well-known country band. Gratis.

And once mucked out, the barn works as a perfect venue for seating family and friends.

Piece of cake, right?

In Come Rain or Come Shine, Jan Karon delivers the wedding that millions of Mitford fans have waited for. It’s a June day in the mountains, with more than a few creatures great and small, and you’re invited—because you’re family.

By the way, it’s a pretty casual affair, so come as you are and remember to bring a tissue or two. After all, what’s a good wedding without a good cry?

From the Hardcover edition.
