Things That Matter: Three Decades of Passions, Pastimes and Politics

From America’s preeminent columnist, named by the Financial Times the most influential commentator in the nation, the long-awaited collection of Charles Krauthammer’s essential, timeless writings.

A brilliant stylist known for an uncompromising honesty that challenges conventional wisdom at every turn, Krauthammer has for decades dazzled readers with his keen insight into politics and government. His weekly column is a must-read in Washington and across the country. Now, finally, the best of Krauthammer’s intelligence, erudition, and wit are collected in one volume.

Listeners will find here not only the country’s leading conservative thinker, offering a passionate defense of limited government, but also a highly independent mind whose views – on feminism, evolution, and the death penalty, for example – defy ideological convention.

Things That Matter also features several of Krauthammer’s major path-breaking essays – on bioethics, on Jewish destiny, and on America’s role as the world’s superpower – that have profoundly influenced the nation’s thoughts and policies. And finally, the collection presents a trove of always penetrating, often bemused reflections on everything from border collies to Halley’s Comet, from Woody Allen to Winston Churchill, from the punishing pleasures of speed chess to the elegance of the perfectly thrown outfield assist.

With a special, highly autobiographical introduction, in which Krauthammer reflects on the events that shaped his career and political philosophy, this indispensable chronicle takes the listener on a fascinating journey through the fashions and follies, the tragedies and triumphs, of the last three decades of American life.

Three Wishes

When Lily Jacobs was born, she inherited Fazire – a genie. Her family had three wishes and they’d only ever used one so Fazire was stuck in the human world. This worked since he’d become a member of the family anyway.

Even with a genie, Lily’s young life wasn’t perfect. To escape the kids making her miserable at school, Lily buried herself in romance novels. One day, when the teasing was just too much, she used one of her wishes. She told Fazire she wanted to find a man like in her books and she made the most complicated wish Fazire had ever heard. Her wished-for man had to be impossibly handsome, virile, fierce, rugged, and ruthless (amongst a dozen other things).

He also had to think she was beautiful and he had to love her more than anything in the world.

Nathaniel McAllister wasn’t born to a life where there were such things as genies granting wishes. His life was filled with drugs, crime, and neglect. He was running errands for a gangster before he was in his teens and, even though life and hard work led him to wealth and respectability, he always knew, deep down, he was dirty. When Nate met Lily he knew he was no good for her but as virile, fierce, rugged, and ruthless as he was, Nate was no match for the pull of sweet, innocent Lily.

Unfortunately, Lily’s wish included that she and her hero go through trials and tribulations to test their love. And Fazire wasn’t only a good genie, he loved Lily – so he gave her exactly what she wanted.

Three Hundred and Sixty Inspirational Quotes

360 Inspirational Quotes is comprised of motivational quotes and short stories written by Lenon Honor. The book was written to motivate and to inspire the reader to overcome challenges, to consider greater possibilities, and to find higher levels of happiness. Sample quotes from the book: 1. Within every challenge there is the seed of wisdom gained. 2. Love, joy, and peace exist within you as an accessible state of being. The key to accessing this state of being is your state of mind. 3. Appreciation for what you already have is the fertile soil wherein your desires are successfully planted. Let gratitude be the water. Let thankfulness be the sun. And in so doing your desires will sprout into reality like the sweetest fruit. 4. True validation is not externally derived. It is internally realized. It is found in the awareness of your life purpose. It is found in knowing that you are doing exactly what you are on the planet to do. 5. Your internal genius is the gateway to infinite creativity. 6. A woman was facing a great test in her life. She did not know where to go for help. She did not know what to do next. She was afraid. It was as if she was trapped; as if she had been placed in a dark tunnel where there was no comfort, no warmth, and no light. There was a man who was also facing a great challenge in his life. He did not know the best course of action. He did not know where to go for help. It was as if he was trapped; as if he had been placed in a dark tunnel where there was no comfort, no warmth, and no light. The woman in her moment of great uncertainty called out, “Please help me to get out of this dark place!” And the man in his moment of great uncertainty called out, “Please help me to get out of this dark place!” And through the perceived darkness came forth a voice from within that said, “It is not about finding the light at the end of the tunnel. It is about realizing that you are the light at the end of the tunnel.” 7. Within every human being there is a dormant angel.

Three More Jack Reacher Novellas: Too Much Time, Small Wars, Not a Drill and Bonus Jack Reacher Stories

Lee Child once again demonstrates his mastery of the thriller genre with an unbeatable collection of three Jack Reacher novellas and six short stories, together for the first time in one pulse-pounding collection from the #1 New York Times bestselling author

Too Much Time: In this original novella featuring Jack Reacher after his time in the army, Reacher finds himself in a hollowed-out town in Maine. He witnesses a random bag-snatching but sees much more than a simple crime, in a tale that leads into Lee Child’s new Reacher novel, The Midnight Line.

Small Wars: Lee Child goes back to 1989, when Jack Reacher is an MP assigned to solve the cold-blooded murder of a young officer.
The telex is brief and to the point: One active-duty personnel found shot to death ten miles north of Fort Smith. Circumstances unknown. The victim was shot twice in the chest and once in the head. A professional hit. The crime scene suggests an ambush. Military police officer Jack Reacher is given the case. He calls his older brother, Colonel Joe Reacher, at the Pentagon for intel and taps Sergeant Frances Neagley to help him answer the big question: Who would kill a brilliant officer on the fast-track to greatness?

Not a Drill: Jack Reacher is on the road, hitching a ride with some young Canadians who are planning a hike through the dense forests of Maine. They part ways after sharing a hot meal, and Reacher checks out a quiet town surrounded by countryside serene enough to cool even his raging wanderlust. But not for long. First the trail is suddenly closed. Then the military police show up in force. Maybe it’s a drill. Or maybe it’s trouble—the kind of trouble that always finds Reacher, no matter how far he travels off the beaten path.

And for the first time on audio, additional stories featuring Jack Reacher, including: James Penney’s New Identity, Everyone Talks, Maybe They Have a Tradition, Guy Walks into a Bar, No Room at the Motel, and The Picture of the Lonely Diner

Sisters One, Two, Three

After a tragic accident on Martha’s Vineyard, keeping secrets becomes a way of life for the Tangle family. With memories locked away, the sisters take divergent paths. Callie disappears, Mimi keeps so busy she has no time to think, and Ginger develops a lifelong aversion to risk that threatens the relationships she holds most dear.

When a whispered comment overheard by her rebellious teenage daughter forces Ginger to reveal a long-held family secret, the Tangles’ carefully constructed web of lies begins to unravel. Upon the death of Glory, the family’s colorful matriarch, and the return of long-estranged Callie, Ginger resolves to return to Martha’s Vineyard and piece together what really happened on that calamitous day when a shadow fell over four sun-kissed siblings playing at the shore. Along with Ginger’s newfound understanding come the keys to reconciliation: with her mother, with her sisters, and with her daughter.

At turns heartbreaking, humorous, and hopeful, Sisters One, Two, Three explores not only the consequences of secrets – even secrets kept out of love – but also the courage it takes to speak the truth, to forgive, and to let go.
