The Ladies’ Room

Secrets told in the church ladies’ room are supposed to stay in the ladies’ room. But that doesn’t mean that what Trudy overhears there during her great-aunt Gertrude’s funeral won’t change the rest of her life.

Trudy has a daughter in the middle of a major rebellion; a two-timing husband who has been cheating for their entire married life; and a mother with Alzheimer’s residing in the local nursing home. She doesn’t really need a crumbling old house about to fall into nothing but a pile of memories and broken knickknacks.

Billy Lee Tucker, resident oddball in Tishomingo, Oklahoma, lived next door to Gert, and in her will she leaves him the funds to help Trudy remodel the old house. That’s fine with Billy Lee, because he’s been in love with Trudy since before they started school. And just spending time with her is something he’d never ever allowed himself to dream about.

A beautiful home rises up from the old house on Broadway, and right along with it rises up a relationship. But is Trudy too scarred from what she heard in the ladies’ room to see a lovely future with Billy Lee?

Ladies in Charge: Self Empowerment for Women (Inspiring Women Stories) (Volume 2)

Let ten women empower you with their personal story. Sometimes it is hard to do that on your own. These women have turned their lives upside down because they were desperate for a change.

Do you hesitate about taking action and what exactly you should be doing? If you read these stories you realize that you can also overcome whatever obstacles you face.

In order to realize their dream, these women dived into the deep and swapped everything familiar – friends, home or their country- for the unknown. That takes a lot of courage.

How about you? Do you tend to take the easy way out? Or do you need a little help, a little inspiration perhaps from others, to choose instead a road with dangerous curves and unforeseen obstacles?

All women interviewed share their willingness to take control. They are ‘Ladies in Charge’. In some cases there is a fine line between willpower and rebellion, but they always act with respect for others. Each woman, in her own way is grateful for what her upbringing has given, even if this upbringing had shortcomings. They learned to make choices and live the way they want. You may call these women headstrong because they follow their instinct and do things their own way. That is what makes them enterprising, inspiring women.

So, be ready and willing to take charge…! Stand up for yourself, free yourself from barriers, take control, and believe you can do it. If in doubt, just read the stories of these ten women. Have the courage to live your dream.

‘Ladies in Charge’ is the second book in the series Inspiring Women Stories by Audrey Soekhradj. The purpose of this book is to motivate you and give you practical guidance for using your talents to the full so you can become financially and emotionally free.

The hundred questions in this interactive book, will help you make decisions that will influence your life in a way that you feel confident to take charge of your own.

As entrepreneur, career advisor, coach, author and speaker, Audrey Soekhradj uses her talents to help other women find their strengths and shine. She knows from experience that it sometimes takes another person to empower you. Overcoming her own setbacks, which she writes about in the first book of this series, ‘Amazing Women’, reinforced her belief that you can only be complete after you bring out the best in yourself. To help you do that, she developed the Empowering Coaching Quickscan. This quickscan blends seamlessly with this book and adds a unique value: making the shift from dreaming to acting. Order your free copy online.

Use your talents to bring out the best in yourself. If you don’t, you deny others the possibility of learning from you. More than that, you deny yourself the chance to be of real importance and to make a difference. Discover the power woman you truly are and take charge!

The Woman Who Walked In Sunshine: No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency (16)

This latest installment of Alexander McCall Smith’s bestselling No. 1 Ladies’ Detective Agency series…as endearing and delectable as ever!
Precious Ramotswe and Mma Makutsi are both back in harness at the No. 1 Ladies’ Detective Agency, but for once business is a bit slow. At Mma Makutsi’s suggestion, Mma Ramotswe allows herself to be persuaded to take a holiday–her first ever!–even if she finds it a bit odd that Mma Makusti should be so adamant about it. But just as Mma Ramotswe is ready to depart, a new client arrives, a young woman whose father was regarded as a hero in the history of Botswana. Now his reputation is being called into question–was he courageous, as is widely believed, or was he merely a philanderer and opportunist? Though Mma Ramotswe initially wants to cancel her trip, she is cajoled into going by Mma Makutsi’s assurances that she and Charlie have the situation well in hand. However Mma Ramotswe finds that she cannot possibly submit to the luxuries of a carefree holiday without knowing exactly what’s going on at the Agency, so she asks Charlie to be her eyes and ears while she’s away–failing to account for the fact that Charlie is not an altogether reliable emissary, particularly with much of his attention diverted to the challenges of a newly adopted dog. At the close of the investigation, everyone at the No. 1 Ladies’ Detective Agency will confront some uncomfortable truths from their own past and learn to treat certain ordinary human failings with a large helping of charity and compassion.

All the Single Ladies CD: A Novel

The perennial New York Times bestselling author returns with an emotionally resonant novel that illuminates the power of friendship in women’s lives, and is filled with her trademark wit, poignant and timely themes, sassy, flesh-and-blood characters, and the steamy Southern atmosphere and beauty of her beloved Carolina Lowcountry.

Few writers capture the complexities, pain, and joy of relationships—between friends, family members, husbands and wives, or lovers—as beloved New York Times bestselling author Dorothea Benton Frank. In this charming, evocative, soul-touching novel, she once again takes us deep into the heart of the magical Lowcountry where three amazing middle-aged women are bonded by another amazing woman’s death.

Through their shared loss they forge a deep friendship, asking critical questions. Who was their friend and what did her life mean? Are they living the lives they imagined for themselves? Will they ever be able to afford to retire? How will they maximize their happiness? Security? Health? And ultimately, their own legacies?

A plan is conceived and unfurls with each turn of the tide during one sweltering summer on the Isle of Palms. Without ever fully realizing how close they were to the edge, they finally triumph amid laughter and maybe even newfound love.

Upstairs at the White House: My Life with the First Ladies

A fascinating behind-the-scenes look at life on Pennsylvania Avenue with America’s first families, by the man who spent nearly three decades in their midst.

J. B. West, chief usher of the White House, directed the operations and maintenance of 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue—and coordinated its daily life—at the request of the president and his family. He directed state functions; planned parties, weddings, funerals, gardens, playgrounds, and extensive renovations; and with a large staff, supervised every activity in the presidential home. For 28 years, first as assistant to the chief usher, then as chief usher, he witnessed national crises and triumphs, and interacted daily with six consecutive presidents and first ladies, their parents, children and grandchildren, and houseguests—including friends, relatives, and heads of state.

In Upstairs at the White House, West offers an absorbing and novel glimpse at America’s first families, from the Roosevelts to the Kennedys and the Nixons. Alive with anecdotes ranging from the quotidian (Lyndon B. Johnson’s showerheads) to the tragic (the aftermath of John F. Kennedy’s assassination), West’s audiobook is an enlightening and rich account of the American history that took place just behind the Palladian doors of the North Portico.
