Sacred Story Affirmations: Meditations on Discernment of Spirits
The Affirmations in this book are thumbnail sketches in spiritual discernment inspired by St. Ignatius of Loyola. They can be a tremendous spiritual resource for your life. Most of them are lifted from St. Ignatius’ Rules for the Discernment of Spirits; called Rules for Weeks One and Two in the Spiritual Exercises. I have taken the substance of St. Ignatius’ “Rules” for both Week One and Week Two and translated Ignatius’ discernment guidelines into affirmative statements. Learning their wisdom can provide hope and encouragement on your spiritual journey through this life to Christ’s eternal kingdom. You can also avoid much suffering and grief as you learn the predictable ways evil manifests in your life history—your story—and learn to resist the spiritual assaults and deceptions that move you away from the pathway of light. Pay attention to those that speak to your heart. As you do, ask God why they are meaningful for your own Sacred Story. St. Ignatius always wants us to ask God for the grace of understanding. So don’t be shy! Tell the Lord: “this touches my heart – help me to understand why it is important for me in my life.” Note too, the ones that made no sense at all on your first pray-through. Ask that God’s Holy Spirit keep you open to the graced wisdom they can offer further down the road of your Sacred Story journey.
The Inspiration and Truth of Sacred Scripture: The Word that Comes from God and Speaks of God for the Salvation of the World
In his 2009 post-synodal apostolic exhortation Verbum Domini, Pope Benedict XVI pointed out that “theological reflection has always considered inspiration and truth as two key concepts for an ecclesial hermeneutic of the sacred Scriptures” and that there is today the need “for a fuller and more adequate study of these realities, in order to better respond to the need of interpreting the sacred texts in accordance with their nature.”
The Inspiration and Truth of Sacred Scripture: The Word That Comes from God and Speaks of God for the Salvation of the World is the contribution of the Pontifical Biblical Commission toward a more adequate understanding of the concepts of inspiration and truth that respects both the nature of the Bible and its significance for the life of the Church. Drawing on a close reading of the Scriptures themselves, the document focuses on three main aspects:
1. The inspiration of Sacred Scripture and the exploration of its divine provenance2. The truth of the Word of God, emphasizing the message about God and his project of salvation3. Challenges that arise from the Bible itself, on account of certain aspects that seem inconsistent with its quality of being the Word of God
Reading this document, formally approved by Pope Francis, will strengthen the reader to receive the word of God—in the liturgical assembly and in every other place—in its theological, Christological, soteriological, and ecclesiological context in a way that corresponds ever more closely to this unique gift of God whereby God communicates his very self and invites us into communion with him.
Living in the Heart: How to Enter into the Sacred Space within the Heart (with CD)
Long ago we humans used a form of communication and sensing that did not involve the brain in any way; rather, it came from a sacred place within our hearts. What good would it do to find this place again?
This is a book of remembering. You have always had this place within your heart, and it is still there now. It existed before creation, and it will exist even after the last star shines its brilliant light. At night when you enter your dreams, you leave your mind and enter the sacred space of your heart. But do you remember? Or do you only remember the dream?
Why am I telling you about this something that is fading from our memories? What good would it do to find this place again in a world where the greatest religion is science and the logic of the mind? Don t I know where emotions and feelings are second-class citizens?
Yes, I do. But my teachers have asked me to remind you who you really are. You are more than just a human being, much more. For within your heart is a place, a sacred place, where the world can literally be remade through conscious cocreation. If you really want peace of spirit and if you want to return home, I invite you into the beauty of your own heart. With your permission, I will show you what has been shown to me. I will give you the exact instructions to the pathway into your heart where you and God are intimately one.
It is your choice. But I must warn you: Within this experience resides great responsibility. Life knows when a spirit is born to the higher worlds, and life will use you as all the great masters who have ever lived have been used. If you read this book and do the meditation and then expect nothing to change in your life, you may get caught spiritually napping. Once you have entered the light of the great darkness, your life will change eventually, you will remember who you really are; eventually your life will become a life of service to humanity.
In the last two chapters reside a surprise and a glimpse of great hope. The human lightbody that surrounds the body for about fifty-five to sixty feet in diameter, the Mer-Ka-Ba (which I wrote about in my first two books, The Ancient Secret of the Flower of Life (Volumes I and II), has a secret inherently connected to this sacred space of the heart. If you are practicing the Mer-Ka-Ba meditation in your life, I believe you will find the information in this book to be paramount to your journey of ascension into the higher worlds of light. If you are only interested in the sacred space of the heart, may these words be a blessing in your life and help you remember your true nature.
One last comment. This book is written with the least amount of words possible to convey the meaning and to keep the integrity of the essence of this experience. The images are purposefully simple. It is written from the heart, not the mind.
Inspiration & Interpretation: A Theological Introduction to Sacred Scripture
Inspiration and Interpretation provides readers with a much needed general theological introduction to the study of Sacred Scripture. Denis Farkasfalvy presents the Catholic understanding of biblical inspiration, canon, and interpretation from historical and systematic points of view, starting with the apostolic age and ending with Dei Verbum of the Second Vatican Council. Although written from an explicitly Catholic point of view, the book is of import to non-Catholic Christians, especially traditional Protestants interested in exploring the foundations of biblical theology retained and developed by the Reformation.
The book begins with a thoughtful examination of the way inspiration and interpretation made their interrelated appearance in the early Church, from Pauline exegesis and the Gospel tradition to the early patristic teaching and preaching of the fourth and fifth centuries. It continues through the medieval period, surveying monastic and scholastic exegesis, and leads to a presentation of the new context in which inspiration, canon, and exegesis appeared amid the doctrinal and cultural changes of the Renaissance and Reformation. Surveying the effects of Trent and its aftermath, Farkasfalvy leads the reader to an understanding of the new biblicism embedded in the problems of the nascent rationalist age and historical consciousness. This is followed by a more detailed examination of modern Catholic biblical theology and its confrontation with and assimilation of the critical-historical method. Finally, the author provides a doctrinal synthesis on inspiration and interpretation in the context of contemporary Catholic theology.
Bringing together a wide range of disciplines–New Testament, exegesis, history, and systematic theology–Farkasfalvy illuminates the connection between the logic and history of biblical interpretation as a theological problem and the practice of biblical exegesis as a problem-solving exercise, one that seeks to answer, rediscover, and reformulate the ongoing hermeneutical quest of theology.

It is a way of being. A place that demands being open to the flow of life around you.”) and Rabbi Judith Abrams (“You don’t want to change, yet at the same time you don’t want to stay the same.
