Motivation for Exercise: How to Get Moving and Keep Moving A Personal Guide

When it comes to regular exercise, a lot of people aren’t moving much. Despite being nagged by their loved ones and hearing enough “rah, rah” slogans to last a lifetime, they remain overwhelmed by motivational challenges. Evidence-based research indicates that those people who are not overwhelmed, and who instead develop the motivation to get moving and keep moving, tend to have six important elements working for them: (1) hopes of long-term “benefits” from exercise; (2) choices of exercises that are within their current ability levels; (3) short-term benefits from exercise (including enjoyment and satisfaction) that exceed short-term “costs” (including discomfort and fatigue); (4) ways to reduce or eliminate exercise-related conflicts and inconveniences; (5) ways to overcome common obstacles to exercise routines; and (6) ways to adjust exercise routines to changing circumstances. Many people view motivational problems as character flaws. Dr. Trimble disagrees. Instead, he views society as often failing to teach us how to put the above six elements into play. Learning how on your own can be a pretty tall order. Drawing from evidence-based research, his years of work as a clinical psychologist, and his experiences as a life-long fitness practitioner, Dr. Trimble has written MOTIVATION FOR EXERCISE to help fill the gap.

Moving Mars

Greg Bear is “a writer who is rapidly redefining the shape of the modern hard science fiction novel” (Keith Ferrell, Omni Magazine), and in Moving Mars he explores one very plausible scenario for the future of Earth’s neighboring planet.

Mars is a colonial world governed by corporate interests on Earth. The citizens of Mars are hardworking, brave, and intelligent, but held back by their lack of access to the best education, and the desire of Earthly powers to keep the best inventions for themselves. The young Martians – the second and third generation born on Mars – have little loyalty to the Earth, and strong belief that their planet can be independent. The revolution begins slowly, but matures to its inevitable conclusion.

In this 1995 Nebula Award-winning novel, a revolution is transforming the formerly passive Earth-colony of Mars. While opposing political factions on Mars battle for the support of colonists, scientists make a staggering scientific breakthrough that at once fuels the conflict and creates a united Mars front, as the technically superior Earth tries to take credit for it. Backed against a wall, colonial leaders are forced to make a monumental decision that changes the future of Mars forever.

Taking a Stand: Moving Beyond Partisan Politics to Unite America

Senator Rand Paul, leading national politician and 2016 Presidential candidate, presents his vision for America.
From his electrifying thirteen-hour filibuster against administration-orchestrated drone strikes against U.S. citizens, to leading the discourse on criminal justice, Senator Rand Paul has taken Washington by storm. His outreach to this country’s minority communities alone- championing reforms of mandatory minimum sentencing, school choice, and the creation of enterprise zones for economically depressed areas- distinguishes him as a politician and Republican the likes of which are rarely seen.

What lies ahead is Senator Paul’s plan for America, where lower taxes and smaller government empower a muscular and expansive middle class; an America that doesn’t engage in nation-building or fight wars where the best outcome is stalemate; an America that believes in constitutionally protected liberty and the separation of powers.
